If you have competed at a high level this is the competition for you!

Speed Skating SA invites you to compete in the Mt Gambier Team Speed Skating competition to be held on Saturday, Sept. 28th (indoor) and Sunday, Sept 29th (road).

Where – Mt Gambier Royal Show Society Hall, Pick Ave. @ Mt Gambier Go Kart Track

When – Indoor Sat, September 28th /Outdoor (Go Kart Track) Sun, September 29th

What – Team events and individual races track and road

Who – Anyone who is a member of a skating club and Skate Australia (you must have gloves and a helmet)

Categories –

Competitive skaters: under 12 yrs on the day of the competition and over 12 yrs

Participation skaters: under 12 yrs on the day of the competition and over 12 yrs

  • There will be three grades in each category (A, B, C). Skaters may nominate for A, B or C grade in their category. A grade will be for highly competitive skaters, B grade is for skaters who are up and coming and C grade is for newer skaters

Teams – Teams will be made up of 3 skaters per team. One skater will be drawn randomly from the A, B and C groups. Teams will change for each event.

Prizes – Each skater will be awarded points after each event (depending on where their team finished). The three skaters with the most points at the end of the “Team” competition will receive trophies and the highest 3 points scorer from each category (12+ and under 12s) will receive medals.

Info

  • There will be an under 12yr division and an over 12yr age division.
  • There will be an A, B and C grade section for both age categories.
  • Skaters will nominate in A, B or C grade within their age division.
  • Organisers reserve the right to even out the A, B and C grade groupings (we need equal numbers in each group).
  • For the team events, a skater will be randomly drawn from A, B and C grade groups. The three skaters drawn out will be a team for a particular event.
  • A new team will be drawn out for different events.
  • Points will be awarded to the skaters according to their teams placing in each event.
  • The 3 skaters with the most points at the end of the Team events receive trophies.
  • There will also be medals for first, second and third overall placegetters in the over 12yr division and the under 12yr division.
  • In the event of a tie, times for the indoor flying lap will be used to determine the winner. If there is still a tie the team indoor time trial will be used.
  • The team events for indoor will be a flying lap, a time trial and a 12-lap relay.
  • The indoor racing will also have a standalone event for the over 12 years old group of 100 laps, of which the first 20 laps will be under starters orders.
  • There will be a 40-lap race for the under 12yrs, of which the first 10 laps will be under starters orders.
  • Participation simulation race will be a 20-lap race.
    • Separate Medals for first, second and third will be presented for this event.
  • The over 12 years old and under 12 years old age divisions and the grades (A, B and C) within those two divisions will remain the same for road.
  • Road events will be conducted on the Mt Gambier Go-Kart track.
  • In the Teams section on road, a team relay and an individual team time trial will be run. Points that skaters earn in these events will be added to their indoor tallies.
  • There will also be a longer race which will be a standalone event. Separate medals will be given out to the placegetters in A, B and C grade in the under 12 years old and the over 12 years old.
  • We may also have a 100m dash, if time permits, comprising heats, semis and finals (depending on the number of entries). The 100m will also be a standalone event and separate medals will be given out for the placegetters in A, B and C grade in the under 12 and the over 12 divisions.


    The Teams Challenge is open to all skaters who are members of a registered speed skating club and are competitive / participation members of Skate Australia.


    The cost for the event is $40 per skater. For a family, the second skater is $30. The third skater is $20. The fourth skater is $10. Payments to be made to
